Environmental correlates of spatio‐temporal patterns of colour variation in a bird of prey: The common buzzard (Buteo buteo)

open access: yesIbis, Volume 168, Issue 3, Page 985-1001, July 2026.
High colour variability in animals has been associated with adaptability to environmental change. Establishing how such variability is distributed in time and space, and identifying environmental correlates, can help understand the processes driving it.

Evolution of Crematogaster sordidula (Hymenoptera, Formicidae) Ants in the Mediterranean Region During Plio‐Pleistocene Climatic Changes

open access: yesZoologica Scripta, Volume 55, Issue 4, Page 615-638, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding insect responses to global climate change involves identifying strategies used during past climate oscillations. Phylogeography offers a powerful framework to unravel how historical climatic and geological events have shaped the spatial genetic patterns of species, providing critical insights into evolutionary processes, whereas ...

Variability of the Climate in Athens‐Greece Over the Last 165 Years of the Period 1858–2023: An Assessment Based on Thornthwaite's Climate Classification and Relevant Indices

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 46, Issue 7, 15 June 2026.
Athens' climate according to Thorthwaite is stable despite warming trends. Athens' climate remains semi‐arid and mesothermal over 165 years. Strong increases in evapotranspiration and stable precipitation were found. Soil water storage capacity affects water deficits but not aridity type.

Revisiting Genetic Relationships of the Endangered Austrian Turopolje With Balkan and Commercial Pig Breeds Using Genome‐Wide SNP Data

open access: yesAnimal Genetics, Volume 57, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The endangered Austrian Turopolje (AT) pig population, which originated from six Croatian Turopolje founders imported during the early 1990s, is nowadays preserved through a national conservation project. This study aims to identify genetic relations, genetic distances and migration events between the AT population, four Austrian commercial ...
