The carbon budget of the Baltic Sea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper presents the results of a comprehensive study of the Baltic Sea carbon budget. The Baltic Sea is very much influenced by terrestrial carbon input.

Synchronisation of Extreme Precipitation and Sea Surface Temperature Events in the Northern Hemisphere: A Complex Network Approach

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Using complex network theory and event synchronisation, we find distinct spatiotemporal structures of extreme precipitation and sea surface temperature events across the Northern Hemisphere. Our results show strong local and long‐range connectivity in terrestrial extremes, driven by atmospheric dynamics, contrasting with more localised marine extremes ...

Intra-Industry Trade in the Baltic Sea Region [PDF]

open access: yes
The purpose of this paper is to analyse economic integration in the Baltic Sea Region as it has emerged from mid-1990s. More importantly, we seek to assess the quality of integration as conferred by the development of intra-industry trade between the two

Trends and Circulation Conditions of Precipitation Over the Sudeten Mountains (Central Europe) in the Years 1961–2020

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Significant trends of precipitation totals are visible at seasonal (negative in spring and positive in winter) and monthly level. The deepening rainfall deficit in April in Western Sudetes threatens the stabilisation of forest ecosystems, the preservation of biodiversity and significantly limits water resources for economic use.

The Role of Knowledge‐Based Resources in Leveraging Business Analytics

open access: yesKnowledge and Process Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Business analytics enhances managerial decision‐making. To this end, previous research guides firms to combine their tangible business analytics resources, such as data and technology, with intangible knowledge‐based business analytics resources to enable that business analytics supports decision‐making.

Seasonal dynamics and regional distribution patterns of CO2 and CH4 in the north-eastern Baltic Sea [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences
Significant research has been carried out in the last decade to describe the CO2 system dynamics in the Baltic Sea. However, there is a lack of knowledge in this field in the NE Baltic Sea, which is the main focus of the present study.

Atmospheric deposition of nitrogen to the Baltic Sea in the period 1995–2006 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The EMEP/MSC-W model has been used to compute atmospheric nitrogen deposition into the Baltic Sea basin for the period of 12 yr: 1995–2006. The level of annual total nitrogen deposition into the Baltic Sea basin has changed from 230 Gg N in 1995 to 199 ...

Comparison between fluorometry and microscopy‐based phytoplankton assessments in the Laurentian Great Lakes

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Photosynthetic pigment fluorescence is commonly used in limnology and oceanography as a proxy for phytoplankton biomass. Fluorometry has been used to detect subsurface algal blooms, characterize dynamics of the deep chlorophyll layer, and to provide greater vertical resolution to phytoplankton monitoring.

Recent Change - Marine Circulation and Stratification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This chapter describes recent change in the circulation and stratification of the Baltic Sea. A recent warming trend in sea-surface waters has been clearly demonstrated by in situ measurements, remote sensing data and numerical models.
