Clean‐Limit 2D Superconductivity in a Thick Exfoliated Kagome Film

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports clean‐limit 2D superconductivity in a thick kagome system, analogous to the 3D case. It observes a drop in superfluid stiffness near the superconducting transition and a cusp‐like feature in the angular dependence of the upper critical field.

The Use of Binary Black Holes Merging in Active Galactic Nuclei Disks for Hubble Constant Measurements

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We study the impact of environmental effects on the measurement of the Hubble constant ( H _0 ) from gravitational-wave (GW) observations of binary black hole mergers residing in active galactic nuclei (AGNs) near the central supermassive black hole ...

The Spin of the Black Hole in the Soft X-ray Transient A0620--00

open access: yes, 2010
During its yearlong outburst in 1975--76, the transient source A0620--00 reached an intensity of 50 Crab, an all-time record for any X-ray binary. The source has been quiescent since.

Photoswitching Conduction in Framework Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This mini‐review summarizes recent advances in state‐of‐the‐art proton and electron conduction in framework materials that can be remotely and reversibly switched on and off by light. It discusses the various photoswitching conduction mechanisms and the strategies employed to enhance photoswitched conductivity.

Why black hole production in scattering of cosmic ray neutrinos is generically suppressed

open access: yes, 2006
It has been argued that neutrinos originating from ultra-high energy cosmic rays produce black holes deep in the atmosphere in models with TeV-scale quantum gravity.

Fluorescent Nanodiamonds Based Theranostic Platform for pH‐Sensitive Drug Delivery and Quantum Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional nanodiamond platform enables pH‐triggered Diazoxide (DZX) delivery and quantum sensing of subcellular radical dynamics in triple‐negative breast cancer cells. Diamond relaxometry revealed reduced lysosomal radicals during DZX‐induced mitochondrial radical elevation, providing insights into redox modulation and organelle‐ resolved ...

The Realization of Multidirectional, Free‐Standing 3D Plasmonic Nanostructures via 3D Nanoprinting: A Case Study of Fractal Antennas

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Free‐standing plasmonic gold‐based fractal antennas are fabricated by 3D nanoprinting, employing focused electron beam induced deposition and an optimized purification method to remove carbon while conserving structural fidelity. Simulation and experiment show broadband plasmonic activity, including customizable polarizability, thereby paving the way ...

How a Klein–Nishina Modified Eddington-limited Accretion Explains Rapid Black Hole Growth in the Early Universe

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The discovery of quasars and their supermassive black holes (SMBHs) over 10 ^9 ${M}_{{\rm{\odot }}}$ merely hundreds of millions of years after the Big Bang generates tension with the idea of Eddington-limited accretion and pressures the community into ...

Two hundred years of Methodism! A black theological inquiry into the heritage of Methodism in Southern Africa 1816-2016 [PDF]

open access: yesStudia Historiae Ecclesiasticae (SHE), 2016
A proverb of the Yoruba people of Nigeria says: ‘However far a stream flows, it never forgets its origin.’ The proverb gives credence to the epochal stories of the human race, and more importantly of the Methodist people in Southern Africa. This article evaluates the history of Methodist people in Southern Africa in the period 1816-2016 from a ...
