During World War I, Protestant churches in Australia, on the whole, enthusiastically supported the war effort. The Queensland Presbyterian Church was a significant exception. This study analyses discord and tensions among its clergymen about what constituted an appropriate response to the war.

ABSTRACT This essay explores, from transnational perspectives, the early history of modern cremation, which developed in the long nineteenth century with secularist connotations. I argue that the beginnings of modern cremation were shaped by bourgeois men who claimed certain identifiers for themselves in a gendering and Othering way.

ABSTRACT Australian women were among the first in the world to receive electoral suffrage, yet it took until 1997 before they had full equality of jury suffrage.
