[1988] Proceedings. The Fourth Conference on Artificial Intelligence Applications, 2003
Summary form only given. Two expert systems are used to demonstrate how expert system technology can support arts applications. ARTCRITIC is a prototype of a large-scale system designed to contain a knowledge base about the basis for a detailed critical analysis of a work of visual art. The second expert system demonstrated is GLUE.

An expert system known as CMS-HELP has been developed to serve as an on-line consultant to users of the VM/CMS opening system. It assists computer users (novice or experienced), who attempt to use unfamiliar system facilities, by giving prompt advice of a sequence of commands to accomplish a desired user task.

A brief background on British involvement in computer science is given, focusing on the Alvey Project. This was a five-year, $1-billion research-and-development program for information technology begun in response to Japan's Fifth Generation Computer Systems initiative, which highlighted expert systems as a major opportunity area. The implementation of expert systems
ACM SIGMIS Database: the DATABASE for Advances in Information Systems, 1993A descriptive mail survey of managers of work groups using expert system (ES) technology was performed to gain insight into the management of the ES implementation process. This article presents survey results representing 45 different ES projects that have been successfully implemented in organizations.

Tess = The Tactical Expert System
SPIE Proceedings, 1986A prime application area for expert system technology is that of automatic target recognition. Existing target recognizers by design are not capable of exploiting all of the information contained in a scene during their classification process (contextual cueing of targets for example).

The technology of expert systems
ACM SIGCAS Computers and Society, 1993The technology of computer has been applied to the automation of office tasks and procedures. The technology of expert systems make available a new methodology for automating knowledge-oriented processes. The development of expert systems raises a number of issues for the organizations.
