Drivers of insect herbivory resistance and tolerance to plant damage in the Brachypodium distachyon species complex

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Insect herbivory is a major biotic factor shaping plant populations and driving the evolution of defensive traits. Polyploidy (whole‐genome duplication) often induces substantial phenotypic and genotypic changes that may affect species interactions, including herbivory.

Combination of GEOBIA and data-driven approach for grassland habitat mapping in the Alta Murgia National Park

open access: yesScience of Remote Sensing
This study aims to discriminate semi-natural dry grassland habitats (namely: 6210, 6220, 62A0, according to the Annex I of the European Habitat Directive) in the Alta Murgia National Park, in southern Italy.

Construction of pathogenic Sec16a mutation mouse model using CRISPR/Cas9

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Yaqiang Hu et al. engineered a pathogenic Sec16a mutant mouse model using CRISPR/Cas9 technology. They observed that the Sec16a mutant mice displayed diminished learning and memory capabilities, along with a limb‐clasping phenotype upon tail suspension.

Observations of amphibian, reptile and some mammal species in the area of Šaleška jezera near Velenje during the 2015–2017 period

open access: yesNatura Sloveniae, 2018
In this contribution we present our observations of amphibians, reptiles and some mammals from the area of Šaleška jezera (lakes) near Velenje in northern Slovenia. This area refers to three lakes – Velenjsko jezero, Šoštanjsko jezero and Škalsko jezero,

Integrated Evaluation of Contaminant Profiles, Detection Techniques, and Management Strategies for Tannery Sludge

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This review article critically examines the environmental and health hazards of tannery sludge (TS), a complex by‐product of the leather tanning industry. TS is characterized by a diverse array of contaminants, including heavy metals like chromium, organic pollutants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), volatile organic compounds ...

Geobotanical assessment of forest habitat types of the Habitats Directive in northwestern Turkey [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This contribution exemplifies the identification process of forest and scrub habitat types in northwestern Turkey, thereby following, and geographically extending, the vision of the Pan-European Biological and Landscape Diversity Strategy (PEBLDS) to achieve conservation and sustainable use of biological and landscape diversity for the whole of Europe.

Technobiological Pathways for High‐CO₂ Capture Using Micro‐/Macroalgae: Genetic Engineering, Process Automation, and Value‐Added Bioproducts

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have emerged as one of the most critical drivers of climate change; this is primarily due to high concentrations and long atmospheric life of carbon dioxide (CO2). For a significant amount of time, various biological processes such as microalgal cultivation, cyanobacterial systems, photosynthetic microorganisms ...

Assessing the viability of genebanked seeds from rare, wild plants native to the United States using the D.E.A.D. paradigm

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Genebanks must maintain viable seeds for decades. Seeds that germinate are clearly alive, but some seeds, often from wild populations, do not germinate because they are dormant, empty, aged, or damaged (D.E.A.D.). This work evaluates the effects of D.E.A.D.

Semi‐automated assessment for NatureServe subnational conservation status ranks for state floras

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Conservation status ranks measure the potential risk of extinction for species at global, national, and subnational levels, taking into account rarity, threats, and trends. These assessments are largely incomplete due to funding and resource limitations.
