A new class of invariants in the lepton sector

open access: yes, 2009
We construct a new set of combinations from the mass matrices of the charged leptons and neutrinos that are invariant under basis transformation, hereafter {\it the} invariants.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Nuclear and extended infrared emission in paired and isolated galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes
The empirical connection between gravitational and collisional interactions among galaxies and enhanced activity has been well-documented. However, the physical mechanisms which are responsible for triggering the various forms of activity have not been ...

Husserlian Aspects of Wittgenstein"s Middle Period [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
It is not immediately obvious that there was anything\ud connecting Husserl or phenomenology with Wittgenstein"s\ud work, but with an examination of the evidence, this attitude\ud can be changed.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

The changing role of probation hostels: voices from the inside [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Probation Approved Premises (hereafter referred to by their earlier and informal moniker; hostels) are a small, but vital part of the wider work of the probation service in which high risk offenders are provided semi-secure accommodation either on ...

Spectral variability of ultraluminous X-ray sources

open access: yes, 2008
We study spectral variability of 11 ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULX) using archived XMM-Newton and Chandra observations. We use three models to describe the observed spectra; a power-law, a multi-colour disk (MCD) and a combination of these two models ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

¿Sin Dolores? La ética política de Maquiavelo y Weber en The Sweet Hereafter

open access: yesRevista Enfoques, 2009
This article, on one hand, seeks to analyze the relationship between ethics and politics through Atom Egoyan's film, The Sweet Hereafter ; and on the other hand, it means to demonstrate that theoretical reflection on certain questions not only can and ...
