Elections as beauty contests: do the rules matter? [PDF]
Leaders have become the human face of election campaigns. This has lead to the suggestion that many voters now vote for the party leader they like best rather than the party they prefer.

Advanced Technologies for Characterizing and Detecting Battery Thermal Failure: A Review
Illustration of advanced characterization techniques to predict battery thermal failure. ABSTRACT Energy storage is essential in accelerating the global transition toward clean and sustainable energy across various sectors. Lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) have become increasingly significant for energy storage due to their high energy density, low ...

All unitaries having operator Schmidt rank 2 are controlled unitaries [PDF]
We prove that every unitary acting on any multipartite system and having operator Schmidt rank equal to 2 can be diagonalized by local unitaries. This then implies that every such multipartite unitary is locally equivalent to a controlled unitary with ...

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.

Selective Interfacial Barriers Drive High‐Performance GeTe Thermoelectrics
Carrier‐phonon decoupling is the key to developing high‐performance thermoelectric materials. Here, we demonstrate that selective interfacial barriers can decouple carrier and phonon transport, thus achieving an exceptional peak ZT of ∼2.7 at 773 K, along with a record‐high average ZT of 1.9 across 300–773 K in the (Ge0.82Mn0.04Bi0.04Pb0.1Te)0.99(VSe2 ...
