Characteristics of vertical exchange process in the Pearl River estuary

Aquatic Ecosystem Health & Management, 2016
Being an estuary with the occasional appearance of hypoxia, the Pearl River estuary was selected to investigate its vertical exchange process by a validated 3-D numerical model. The concept of vertical exchange time was used to quantify the vertical exchange process and was calculated by adding a conservative tracer to the hydrodynamic model.

Long-term trends in summer hypoxia and associated driving factors in the Pearl River Estuary, China.

Marine Pollution Bulletin
In this study, we collected in situ water quality data during the summer months from 1985 to 2021 and surface sediment organic carbon and stable carbon isotope (δ13C) data from 2002 and 2020 in the Pearl River Estuary (PRE), to analyze long-term trends ...

Tidal energy budget in the Zhujiang (Pearl River) Estuary

Acta Oceanologica Sinica, 2016
Tidal energy budget in the Zhujiang (Pearl River) Estuary (ZE) is evaluated by employing high-resolution baroclinic regional ocean modeling system (ROMS). The results obtained via applying the least square method on the model elevations are compared against the tidal harmonic constants at 18 tide stations along the ZE and its adjacent coast.

Patterns of potential sediment erosion in the Pearl River Estuary

Journal of Marine Systems, 2010
The interrelations between tidal currents and grain size of sediment of the Pearl River Estuary (PRE), South China Sea, have been investigated. The current system has been described by numerical model data for wet and dry seasons. Measured data from samples have been used for the parameterisation of the fades of the uppermost sediments. These data were

Giant viruses in the Pearl River Estuary

We have isolated several strains of new giant viruses from water/ sediment/ biofilm samples of mangroves and estuaries in the Pearl River Estuary using acanthamoeba as the laboratory host.

Saltwater intrusion in the Pearl River Estuary during winter

Aquatic Ecosystem Health & Management, 2012
An intensive observation and a three-dimensional finite-difference model of Environmental Fluid Dynamic Code were used to study saltwater intrusion in the Pearl River Estuary. The model simulation was carried out for December 2007 to February 2008, which covered the in situ observation.

Whole simulation of storm surge for Pearl River estuary

2010 International Conference on Mechanic Automation and Control Engineering, 2010
In this paper, the typhoon wind field is given by the Chen's Typhoon model. The simulation for the Pearl River estuary is nested with storm surge filed in the northern South China Sea. Using the two-dimensional hydrodynamic model ccost, the simulation model of the storm surge which considers the upriver runoff is established with the structured grid of

Source apportionment of organic carbon and black carbon in the surface sediments of the Pearl River Estuary and its adjacent South China Sea: insight from stable carbon and nitrogen isotopes

Frontiers in Marine Science
Coastal estuaries and adjacent continental shelf seas constitute vital global carbon reservoirs, and the sources and transformations of organic carbon in these regions are crucial to global biogeochemical cycles and climate change.

Anthropogenic-induced ecological risks on marine ecosystems indicated by characterizing emerging pollutants in Pearl River Estuary, China.

Science of the Total Environment
Anthropogenic Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) in marine environments have raised significant concerns. Yet, analyses detailing their origins, fate, and environmental effects are limited.
