DO THINGS a little differently from the way they're usually done, and the results might turn out surprisingly well. By modifying familiar recipes, chefs sometimes produce masterpieces. By altering their daily routes, commuters may shave minutes off their travel times. Even spectroscopists stand to gain by trying something different.

Broadband Raman amplifiers in the spectral range of 1480-1620 nm
OFC/IOOC . Technical Digest. Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 1999, and the International Conference on Integrated Optics and Optical Fiber Communication, 2003Raman amplifiers using germano-silica fibers are demonstrated with a continuous operation bandwidth from 20 nm to more than 100 nm, 20-40 dB net gain and 4.5-7 dB noise figure. Single-, dual-, and triple-wavelength pumping are implemented in the configuration incorporating circulators for pump/signal multiplexing.

Raman spectroscopic study of (CH3NH3)2HgCl4 in the high-temperature range
Chemical Physics Letters, 1987Abstract A Raman spectroscopic study of (CH 3 NH 3 ) 2 HgCl 4 is reported in the temperature range 299–373 K. Discontinuities in the HgCl symmetric stretching mode and in the frequency shift of the CN stretching mode indicate a new phase above 330 K. A non-linear increment of the widths of these bands confirms the transition.

Laser trapping and Raman spectroscopy of single cellular organelles in the nanometer range
Lab Chip, 2002The laser trapping technique combined with near-infrared Raman (NIR) spectroscopy was used for the analysis of single cellular organelles in the nanometer range. The samples were synaptosomes, nerve-ending particles (about 500-700 nm in diameter) isolated from a neuron in a rat brain, dispersed in the phosphate buffer solution.

Fluorescence-Encoded Time-Domain Coherent Raman Spectroscopy in the Visible Range
The Journal of Physical Chemistry LettersFluorescence-encoded vibrational spectroscopy has attracted increasing attention by virtue of its high sensitivity and high chemical specificity. We recently demonstrated fluorescence-encoded time-domain coherent Raman spectroscopy (FLETCHERS), which enables low-frequency vibrational spectroscopy of low-concentration fluorophores using near-infrared ...

Raman spectra of terephthalic acid crystals in the temperature range 5 K–300 K
Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 2018Raman spectra of terephthalic acid crystals were taken in the temperature range 5K-300K. The temperature dependence of the vibrational frequency of the O⋯O hydrogen bond is found to contain information on the mechanism of the proton motion along the bond (hopping and/or tunneling).

Laser Raman spectroscopy of THF clathrate hydrate in the temperature range 90–300K
Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 2007In situ Raman and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR-NIR) spectroscopic studies on tetrahydrofuran (THF-C(4)H(8)O) clathrate hydrate (CH) were reported. The Raman results in lattice (64 cm(-1)), ring breathing and C-H stretching mode regions are in conformity with earlier reports, while the FTIR (NIR) studies in second order mode region were reported for

Metastructures for the Giant Enhancement of Raman Scattering in the Near Infrared Spectral Range
JETP Letters, 2020The properties of periodic dielectric structures coated with a thick metal layer, which allow enhancing an inelastic light scattering signal by more than eight orders of magnitude at a laser pump wavelength of 1064 nm, have been studied. It has been shown that the giant resonance enhancement of the Raman signal in the near infrared range is ensured by ...

Quasi-cw high-power lithium iodate Raman laser for the optical range
Soviet Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1986A lithium iodate crystal, placed inside the resonator of a continuously pumped YAG:Nd3+ laser, was used to achieve for the first time stimulated Raman scattering (STRS) generating wavelengths 556.46 and 582.99 nm with an average power in the mode-locking regime of about 50 mW and 7 mW, respectively. In the Q-switching regime at the 582.99 nm wavelength

Recording of infrared Raman-scattered light by conversion to the visible range
Soviet Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1974A theoretical analysis is made of a new method for recording infrared Raman-scattering radiation. The essence of the method lies in the mixing of the scattered radiation and of the pumping radiation in a nonlinear crystal and detecting the resultant sum frequency with a photomultiplier. It is shown that this method should ensure reliable recording even
