Adding exercise to usual care in patients with hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus and/or cardiovascular disease: a protocol for a systematic review with meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis

open access: yesSystematic Reviews, 2019
Background Hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease are among the leading causes of mortality globally. Exercise is one of the commonly recommended interventions/preventions for hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus and ...

A systematic review and economic evaluation of exercise referral schemes in primary care: a short report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background - It is estimated that only 39% of men and 29% of women in England achieve the levels of physical activity that are recommended to protect health and prevent disease. One approach to addressing this problem has been the development of exercise

Selenoprotein H Functions as a PPARα Coactivator to Link Selenium Homeostasis to Hepatic Lipid Metabolism and Protect against Steatohepatitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our study identifies selenium deficiency as a hallmark of MASH pathogenesis. Dietary selenium supplementation enhances hepatic fatty acid oxidation (FAO) and attenuates MASH progression by activating the PPARα pathway via selenoprotein H (SELENOH). This selenium‐SELENOH‐PPARα nexus redefines the functional scope of selenoproteins, moving from redox ...

Endothelial PDGF Signaling Dysregulation Impairs Testicular Interstitial Homeostasis in Diabetes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Testicular endothelial cells (TECs) function as central signaling hubs that coordinate interstitial homeostasis. Diabetes disrupts TEC‐derived PDGF signaling, silences the JUND‐MCL1 survival program in Leydig cells, and impairs peritubular function, leading to fibrosis and testosterone insufficiency.

Multi‐Tissue Omics Analysis Uncovers Translational Regulation Underlying Complex Traits in Pigs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Integrated multi‐omics across pig breeds and tissues reveals key principles of post‐transcriptional translational regulation and their contribution to trait formation. A gene network framework integrating transcriptomic and translatomic data is developed and applied to elucidate the genetic basis of meat production, offering new insights into mammalian
