Pomeron: Beyond the Standard Approach

We discuss the experimental evidence supporting the concept of universality of the rapidity gap probability in soft and hard diffraction, relate the gap probability to hadronic parton densities, and present a phenomenological model of diffraction in which the structure of the Pomeron is derived from the structure of the parent hadron.
