Analysis of the Stochasticity of Mortality Using Variance Decomposition
2014We analyse the stochasticity in mortality data from the USA, the UK and Sweden, and in particular to which extent mortality rates are explained by systematic variation, due to various risk factors, and random noise. We formalise this in terms of a mixed regression model with a logistic link function, and decompose the variance of the observations into ...

Orthogonal decomposition of interaction effect in analysis of variance
Journal of Statistics and Management Systems, 2013AbstractThe traditional definition of an interaction effect in analysis of variance makes it difficult to size up its magnitude because it entails the knowledge of all the cell means in the factorial design. We use orthogonal coding to decompose the interaction effect into distinctive components that are based on mean contrasts.

Dermatoglyphic traits in a sample of twins were analyzed to estimate the resemblance between MZ and DZ twins and to evaluate the mode of inheritance by using the maximum likelihood-based Variance decomposition analysis. The additive genetic variance component was significant in both sexes for four traits--PII, AB_RC, RC_HB, and ATD_L.

SUMMARY A factorization is given of the residual operator for nonorthogonal analysis of variance. It is interpreted geometrically in terms of the critical angles between the subspaces determined by the factors. The factorization determines a recursive procedure for analysis as described by Wilkinson (1970). Canonical components are defined and a method

Application of variance decomposition approach in the uncertainty analysis of a hydrological model
Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, 2013Decomposition of uncertainty into individual sources is important for understanding the risks of decisions made under the modelling uncertainty. This paper has applied the predictive uncertainty analysis and variance decomposition (VD) approach for quantifying hydrological modelling uncertainty. The VD analysis is used for quantifying the contribution

Sensitivity analysis based on variance decomposition for factors in bat algorithm
Engineering Computations, 2019Purpose This paper aims to quantify the dependence relationship of bat algorithm’s (BA) behaviour on the factors that could possibly affect the outputs, and rank the importance of the various uncertain factors thus suggesting research priorities. Design/methodology/approach This paper conducts a sensitivity analysis based on variance decomposition ...

Chilean Stock Market Expected Return Analysis: A Variance Decomposition
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2010The main objective of this paper is to quantify the effect of expectation changes about discount rate and dividend growth rate over the Chilean market portfolio returns. The model applied was taken from the works of Campbell and Shiller (1988, 1988a), Campbell (1991) and Campbell and Vuolteenaho (2005).
