Gender &History, EarlyView.ABSTRACT This essay explores, from transnational perspectives, the early history of modern cremation, which developed in the long nineteenth century with secularist connotations. Winston Churchill and France: A Certain Ideal
History, EarlyView.Abstract This article examines relations between Winston Churchill and France. It argues that Churchill was sympathetic to France and, in particular, unusual among Englishmen of his generation in being sympathetic to its political system, but also that this sympathy did not make Churchill consistent in his relations with France.
