Regional inequality by the Theil index

Finance and Credit, 2020
Subject. Regions are different across Russia in terms of most social and economic indicators. There is the regional inequality of economic and social indicators. The Russian regions demonstrate a serious gap in terms of the productive sector development, since the industrial and productive potential is unevenly allocated across regions. Objectives. The

Theil index for aggregation of software metrics values

2010 IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance, 2010
We propose a new approach to aggregating software metrics from the micro-level of individual artifacts (e.g., methods, classes and packages) to the macro-level of the entire software system. The approach, Theil index, is a well-known econometric measure of inequality.

Uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimators of Theil—Tornqvist index numbers

Economics Letters, 1992
Abstract The Theil-Tornqvist index number is widely used for pairwise comparisons of cost-of-living over time periods or geographical regions/countries. Traditionally this index is used in its log-change form as well as in a multiplicative form, with a one-to-one correspondence between the two forms. In this note we examine the sampling distributions

Non-Hierarchical Bivariate Decomposition of Theil Indexes [PDF]

open access: possibleEconomics Bulletin, 2007
This paper develops a method to conduct non-hierarchical bivariate decomposition of Theil indexes. The method has the merits that, first, it treats all variates symmetrically and therefore facilitates the comparison of inequalities associated with different variates; and, second, it highlights the interaction between variates in the creation of ...

Exploring Theil's best linear indexes

Applied Economics Letters, 2013
Theil (1960) estimates price and quantity indexes jointly by orthogonal regression. This letter shows how to bootstrap Theil's indexes and how to detect outliers. Aggregation issues are discussed, and the methodology is applied to a cross section of nursing facilities.

Evaluation of knowledge stock gap based on Theil index

2014 International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics, 2014
Theil index has been widely used in inequality measure for its systematic and homogeneous. This paper establishes the knowledge stock index system to calculate the knowledge stock, considering the specific economic background with fewer indexes reflecting the stock accurately and scientifically, then evaluates the knowledge stock gap based on the Theil

Globalization — Entropy unification through the Theil index

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2008
Abstract A time series is remapped onto an entropy concept, based on the Theil index. The Manhattan distance between these surrogate series is calculated, and contrasted to the usual correlation distance measure. The idea is applied to several Gross Domestic Product (relative increments) of rich countries.

A Bootstrap for Theil’s Best Linear Index Numbers

Atlantic Economic Journal, 2009
If the prices and the corresponding quantities of K commodities are observed in a cross section of R regions, the data may be arrayed in two matrices, P and Q respectively, each having R rows and K columns. Theil [Econometrica, 1960] defines the cross-value matrix C = PQ as a positive-valued array whose typical element crt measures the aggregate ...

Extending Theil's Inequality Index: Addressing Dynamic Convergence in the OECD

2003
Theil’s inequality index is used to measure convergence in 14 Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries in terms of per capita income, per capita government and investment expenditures, and industrial employment. Results indicate that all four variables have converged over the sample period, 1950-1988.
