A community‐driven vision for a new knowledge resource for AI

open access: yesAI Magazine, Volume 46, Issue 4, Winter 2025.
Abstract The long‐standing goal of creating a comprehensive, multi‐purpose knowledge resource, reminiscent of the 1984 Cyc project, still persists in AI. Despite the success of knowledge resources like WordNet, ConceptNet, Wolfram|Alpha and other commercial knowledge graphs, verifiable, general‐purpose, widely available sources of knowledge remain a ...

Computational Modeling of Reticular Materials: The Past, the Present, and the Future

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 52, December 29, 2025.
Reticular materials are advanced materials with applications in emerging technologies. A thorough understanding of material properties at operating conditions is critical to accelerate the deployment at an industrial scale. Herein, the status of computational modeling of reticular materials is reviewed, supplemented with topical examples highlighting ...

From modality to millianism

open access: yesNoûs, Volume 59, Issue 4, Page 851-872, December 2025.
Abstract A new argument is offered which proceeds through epistemic possibility (for all S knows, p), cutting a trail from modality to Millianism, the controversial thesis that the semantic content of a proper name is simply its bearer. New definitions are provided for various epistemic modal notions.

Boundary conditions and universal finite‐size scaling for the hierarchical |φ|4$|\varphi |^4$ model in dimensions 4 and higher

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, Volume 78, Issue 10, Page 2001-2118, October 2025.
Abstract We analyse and clarify the finite‐size scaling of the weakly‐coupled hierarchical n$n$‐component |φ|4$|\varphi |^4$ model for all integers n≥1$n \ge 1$ in all dimensions d≥4$d\ge 4$, for both free and periodic boundary conditions. For d>4$d>4$, we prove that for a volume of size Rd$R^{d}$ with periodic boundary conditions the infinite‐volume ...

Randomized Orthogonalization Process With Reorthogonalization

open access: yesNumerical Linear Algebra with Applications, Volume 32, Issue 4, August 2025.
ABSTRACT The dimension reduction technique of random sketching is advantageous in significantly reducing computational complexity. In orthogonalization processes like the Gram‐Schmidt (GS) algorithm, incorporating random sketching results in a halving of computational costs compared to the classical/modified Gram‐Schmidt (CGS/MGS) algorithms, while ...

Use and reporting of historical control data for regulatory studies

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract The provision of historical control data (HCD) is a data requirement for pesticide active substances established by European legislation. HCD are data from studies conducted under the same or similar conditions as the toxicity study under assessment (index study). The collation, use and interpretation of HCD is currently not harmonised.

Inorganic Dielectric Materials Coupling Micro‐/Nanoarchitectures for State‐of‐the‐Art Biomechanical‐to‐Electrical Energy Conversion Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 28, July 17, 2025.
Biomechanical‐to‐electrical energy conversion devices are uniquely suited for self‐driven physiological information monitoring and powering human–computer interaction systems. These devices based on micro‐/nanoarchitectured inorganic dielectric materials (MNIDMs) have shown ultrahigh electromechanical performance and thus great potential for practical ...

ArtEM: Enhancing the Understanding of Integer and Modular Arithmetic Through Interactive Learning Software

open access: yesComputer Applications in Engineering Education, Volume 33, Issue 4, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Integer and modular arithmetic is a fundamental area of mathematics, with extensive applications in computer science, and is essential for cryptographic protocols, error correction, and algorithm efficiency. However, students often struggle to understand its abstract nature, especially when transitioning from theoretical knowledge to practical

Structure‐Preserving Approximations of the Serre‐Green‐Naghdi Equations in Standard and Hyperbolic Form

open access: yesNumerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations, Volume 41, Issue 4, July 2025.
ABSTRACT We develop structure‐preserving numerical methods for the Serre–Green–Naghdi equations, a model for weakly dispersive free‐surface waves. We consider both the classical form, requiring the inversion of a nonlinear elliptic operator, and a hyperbolic approximation of the equations, allowing fully explicit time stepping.
