Stress-Dependent Permeability of Fractures in Tight Reservoirs

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
Permeability is one of the key factors involved in the optimization of oil and gas production in fractured porous media. Understanding the loss in permeability influenced by the fracture system due to the increasing effective stress aids to improve ...

Understanding with Theoretical Models [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Economic Methodology, 2014
This paper discusses the epistemic import of highly abstract and simplified theoretical models using Thomas Schelling’s checkerboard model as an example. We argue that the epistemic contribution of theoretical models can be better understood in the context of a cluster of models relevant to the explanatory task at hand.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

A theoretical model for determining turbine flowmeter sensitivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
Analytical model of turbine-type flowmeter guides in the selection of valid extrapolation of available calibration data. An expression for flowmeter performance is developed to include the effects of fluid friction, bearing drag, and magnetic drag upon ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Theoretical model for the superconducting and magnetically ordered borocarbides

open access: yes, 2000
We present a theory of superconductivity in presence of a general magnetic structure in a form suitable for the description of complex magnetic phases encountered in borocarbides.

How career variety promotes the adaptability of managers: a theoretical model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper presents a theoretical model showing how managerial adaptability develops from career variety over the span of the person’s career. By building on the literature of career theory, adult learning and development, and career adjustment, we oVer ...

THEORETICAL MODELS OF DARK ENERGY [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics D, 2012
Mounting observational data confirm that about 73% of the energy density consists of dark energy which is responsible for the current accelerated expansion of the Universe. We present observational evidences and dark energy projects. We then review various theoretical ideas that have been proposed to explain the origin of dark energy; they contain the ...
