On the Influence of Antioxidants and Recycled MgO–C Source Material on the Mechanical Properties of Carbon‐Bonded Magnesia Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The presented study focuses on the fracture behaviour of carbon‐bonded magnesia MgO–C refractories, where environmentally friendly fructose, collagen and lignin serve as temporary binding agents. The partial substitution of the source material with recycled MgO–C reduces the fracture resistance, which can be counteracted by the additional introduction ...

Meso-mechanism of rock failure influenced by bolt anchorage under uniaxial compression loading

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2018
As an important support method, the bolt anchoring system is widely used to control the dynamic disasters of deep brittle surrounding rock, but deep rock engineering practices have been beset by the failure of brittle rock with bolt support because the ...

Reduction of the mesh size influence on the results of a lagrangian finite element machining mode [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Mesh dependence of the results of a finite element model are well known in many fields such as in structural design. This problem is however not much addressed in the literature for machining modelling although it is crucial for the quality of the results ...

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Preliminary analysing of experimental data for the development of high Cr Alloy Creep damage Constitutive Equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This conference paper presents the current research of preliminary analysing of experimental data for the development of high Cr Alloy Creep damage Constitutive Equations (such as P91 alloy). Firstly, it briefly introduces the background of general creep

On a damage-plasticity approach to model concrete failure

open access: yes, 2009
A damage-plasticity constitutive model for the description of fracture in plain concrete is presented. Two approaches, the local model comprising the adjustment of the softening modulus and the nonlocal model based on spatial averaging of history ...

Understanding fast macroscale fracture from microcrack post mortem patterns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Dynamic crack propagation drives catastrophic solid failures. In many amorphous brittle materials, sufficiently fast crack growth involves small-scale, high-frequency microcracking damage localized near the crack tip.

A Data-Driven Multiscale Theory for Modeling Damage and Fracture of Composite Materials

open access: yes, 2019
The advent of advanced processing and manufacturing techniques has led to new material classes with complex microstructures across scales from nanometers to meters. In this paper, a data-driven computational framework for the analysis of these complex material systems is presented.

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...
