Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Social Pedagogical Eyes in the Midst of Diverse Understandings, Conceptualisations and Activities

open access: yesInternational Journal of Social Pedagogy, 2012
The concept of social pedagogy consists of two parts. The principal term is ‘pedagogy’ and the qualifying one is ‘social’. The word ‘social’ is used in different ways and contexts.

An Agenda for Comparative Social Media Studies: The Value of Understanding Practices From Cross-National, Cross-Media, and Cross-Platform Perspectives

open access: yesInternational Journal of Communication, 2021
We argue the descriptive fit and heuristic power of social media scholarship is much increased when incorporating a comparative turn. To this end, we offer analytical categories for organizing research that has sought to (a) rely on multicountry data ...

An Attempt at Conceptualizing the Information City, its Spaces and Their Potentials

open access: yesMegaron, 2015
Throughout history, cities have functioned as centers where information flows, and is used, produced and distributed. However, as a result of transformations in the qualities of information transmitters, cities today are more receptive to anything that ...

Building theory from practice [PDF]

open access: yesStrategic Organization, 2005
The relationship between management research and practice is expanding in response to growing demand for research that is relevant to business and society, contributing in active and visible ways to the generation of wealth and competitiveness. Expectations of relevance come from many different sectors: universities, students, politicians, business ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Space-Time Adaptive Cancellation in Passive Radar Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2018
A critical issue in the realization of passive radar systems is the effective suppression of the zero Doppler interference (ZDI). The performance of the clutter cancellation relies much on the used algorithms.

What do we mean by building function? [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Scientific approaches to architecture usually avoid the issue of building form, preferring to focus on function. But how can there be a theory of function without a systematic analysis of the key architectural variable of form?

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
