Nonlinear Theory of a Caustic Region

Studies in Applied Mathematics, 1976
The caustic formed when a water wave is propagating at incidence into increasing depth is considered first in the linear approximation. A scheme for a nonlinear approach is indicated by this analysis, and the nonlinear equations valid in the caustic region are obtained.

Theory of regions

1998
The synthesis problem for nets consists in deciding whether a given graph is isomorphic to the marking graph of some net and then constructing it. This problem has been solved in the literature for various types of nets ranging from elementary nets to Petri nets.

The Theory of Photoionized Regions

2003
In this chapter, we move from considering plasmas that are excited by predominantly collisional means to those that are heated by energetic photons coming from a photoionizing source, be it a star, a nucleus of an active galaxy, or whatever. Such photoionization-dominated plasmas are very commonly observed in galaxies and historically, were one of the ...

Toward a behavioral theory of regionalization

1992
This paper addresses the problem of regionalization from a social science perspective. The author presents a theory of regionalization based on an elementary model of human action. Regions are classified according to the various phases of adaptive human behavior which they represent.
