Therapeutic Embolization of Facial Arteriovenous Fistulae

Radiology, 1979
Two cases of percutaneous transfemoral embolization of facial hemangiomas and arteriovenous (AV) malformations are reported. In both cases, Ivalon shavings were injected through a percutaneously placed catheter to permanently occlude peripheral feeders of the AV malformation. In one case, because of the size of the large venous sacs associated with the

Therapeutic aspects of fat embolism syndrome

Injury, 2006
Signs and symptoms of clinical fat embolism syndrome (FES) usually begin within 24-48 hours after trauma. The classic triad involves pulmonary changes, cerebral dysfunction, and petechial rash. Clinical diagnosis is key because laboratory and radiographic diagnosis is not specific and can be inconsistent.

Therapeutic embolization with a microballoon catheter system

American Journal of Roentgenology, 1980
Clinical experience with a new embolization and perfusion microballoon catheter system is presented in 34 patients with angiomas, arteriovenous fistulas, and cerebral hemorrhages. The system uses two separate balloon tips, one for detachment as an embolus and one for perfusion of elastomer.

Combined therapeutic embolization and surgery

1994
Vascular embolization plays an increasingly important role in a large number of clinical conditions, particularly as an emergency procedure for the control of haemorrhage from abdominal viscera, either as a definitive treatment or as a means of stabilizing the patient before subsequent surgery.

Therapeutic Ivalon embolization of hepatic tumors

American Journal of Roentgenology, 1982
Ivalon particles were used for 80 hepatic artery embolizations in 50 patients who had either primary or metastatic hepatic neoplasms. Ten patients died within 1-5 months and the remaining 40 patients were still alive. The post-hepatic embolization syndrome was identical to that following Gelfoam embolization.

Therapeutic approach to acute pulmonary embolism

Intensive Care Medicine, 1984
Many therapeutic aspects of venous thromboembolism continue to generate controversy so that the general therapeutic guidelines given below are only indicative. The first step is the diagnosis of venous thromboembolism; this is done in the vast majority of patients by visualization of blood clots using either pulmonary angiography or phlebography.

Pulmonary Embolism

Drugs, 1976
Pulmonary thromboembolism is a widespread problem and is an important cause of death in patients with a variety of medical and surgical conditions. There have been few significant advances in the understanding of the aetiology beyond additional evidence confirming the importance of Virchow's triad. An impressive list of epidemiological associations has

Therapeutic Percutaneous Embolization in Intractable Epistaxis

Radiology, 1974
Two cases of intractable epistaxis are reported in which angiographic demonstration of the bleeding site was followed by successful therapeutic embolization with Gelfoam particles. The particles were inserted through the catheter as near the bleeding site as possible, and cessation of bleeding was ...

Therapeutic embolization: enhanced radiolabeled monitoring.

Radiology, 1990
Radiolabeling of Ivalon (polyvinyl alcohol sponge) particles permits localization of injected particles during embolization through the use of a portable gamma camera and provides a means to prevent potentially fatal complications such as pulmonary embolization.
