Hemostatic effects of therapeutic plasma exchange: A concise review
Journal of clinical apheresis, 2022Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) alters the hemostatic balance. Contributing to TPE's hemostatic effects is the mechanical processing of blood in the extracorporeal circuit, circuit anticoagulant, type of replacement fluid, TPE schedule and number of ...

The concept of therapeutic plasma exchange or plasmapheresis dates back to the beginning of this century when, in 1902, Hedon 1 bled rabbits and returned to them their washed RBCs in "artificial serum." The therapy was used in humans as early as 1909.

The Complications of Therapeutic Plasma Exchange
Vox Sanguinis, 1984AbstractWe reviewed a series of 181 patients who were treated with therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) a total of 1,389 times. Complications were associated with 22 (1.6%) of the procedures and involved 20 (11%) of the patients. Six of the complications were of a technical nature and did not affect the medical conditions of the patients.

Immune checkpoint inhibitor toxicity: A new indication for therapeutic plasma exchange?
Journal of clinical apheresis, 2021Novel immune‐modulating anticancer drugs are being used with increasing frequency. With increased use, there are more frequent cases of toxicities caused by these drugs, termed immune‐related adverse events (irAEs).

Therapeutic plasma exchange in Casablanca
Transfusion and Apheresis Science, 2008Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is an extracorporeal blood purification method for the treatment of diseases in which pathological proteins have to be eliminated. In the aim to demonstrate our single center activity, we analyzed our data since 2 years.Between years 2002 and 2005, 104 TPE procedures were performed on 42 patients.
