Novel and efficient thermal error reduction strategy for machine tool performance improvement

open access: yes, 2008
The accuracy of a machine tool is affected by the heat generated during the machining process. Also, varying environmental conditions produce thermal gradients that flow through the machine structure.

Modeling the separation of water‐in‐oil emulsions in continuously fed gravity settlers using millifluidic experiments

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Emulsion separation remains a persistent challenge in chemical and process industries due to the metastable nature of dispersed droplets. In gravity separators, the overall separation rate is governed by the formation of a densely packed zone (DPZ) of deforming and coalescing droplets that mediates between the dispersed and continuous phases ...

Evolution of Physical Intelligence Across Scales

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
By following the evolution of physical intelligence across scales, this article shows how intelligence arises from materials, structures, physical interactions, and collectives. It establishes physical intelligence as the evolutionary foundation upon which embodied intelligence is built.

Evaluation of the Applicability of Thermal Spraying in case of Restoring Rods of Hydraulic Cylinders according to the Criterion of Adhesion Strength of Coatings under Operation Loads

open access: yesМеханика машин, механизмов и материалов, 2018
A technique for determining the minimum required strength of the adhesion of coatings when restoring the rods of hydraulic cylinders using gas-thermal technologies is proposed.

Self‐Sensing Artificial‐Muscle‐Empowered Humanlike Perception, Interaction, and Positioning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
The proposed self‐sensorized artificial muscle (SSAM) can sense its length change as small as 0.01 mm via a seamlessly integrated multi‐segment induction coil. The SSAM provides accurate length information regardless of its loadings, driving pressure, or muscle design, adequate for robust data‐driven feedback control.

A window opening algorithm and UK office temperature field results and thermal simulation

open access: yes, 2007
This investigation of the window opening data from extensive field surveys in UK office buildings investigates 1) how people control the indoor environment by opening windows, 2) the cooling potential of opening windows, and 3) the use of an “adaptive ...
