Thermal and Environmental Barrier Coatings (TBCs/EBCs) for Turbine Engines
2013Abstract This article presents a summary of the current and new materials and processing techniques for thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) and environmental barrier coatings (EBCs). Different thermal spraying and postspraying processing techniques are required to produce coatings with optimal performance.

A Review on Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBC) Usage and Effect on Internal Combustion Engine
2021A growing number of vehicles polluting the environment and are also responsible for the fossil fuel depletion. To overcome these problems, the efficiency of an internal combustion engine needs to be increased. Many types of research have been carried out on decreasing the polluting gases from the engine by treating them with chemicals or by trapping ...

Ceramic top layers of yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) have gained increasing importance as thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) of heat exposed components in advanced gas turbines. In air plasma sprayed (APS) coatings the low inherent thermal conductivity of YSZ is further enhanced by the numerous microstructural defects from the spraying process. However,

Columnar Structured Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs) by Suspension Plasma Spraying (SPS)
International Thermal Spray Conference, 2014Abstract In this study, a suspension containing Mg-Al-spinel nanopowder was deposited on bond-coated IN738 and stainless steel disks by suspension plasma spraying with and without substrate cooling. Coating surfaces and cross-sections were examined by SEM, EDS, and XRD analysis and thermal cycling tests were performed.

Representative samples of yttria stabilized zirconia (7YSZ) co-doped with varying concentrations of TiO2 were fabricated using plasma spraying. Samples were sintered in order to minimize porosity and to simulate the bulk material properties. After sintering, porosity levels of less than 1.25% were achieved.

Diffraction Techniques for the Study of Ceramic Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs)
2000Diffraction techniques are particularly suited for the study of the structural and mechanical properties of ceramic thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) for applications in engine components. Both X-ray (lab and synchrotron radiation) and neutron diffraction permit a non-destructive determination of phase content and several interesting related properties ...

Enhancement of TBC (Thermal Barrier Coatings) Characteristics by Gas Tunnel Type Plasma Spraying
Materials Science Forum, 2007Zirconia (ZrO2) coating formed by plasma spray method is widely used industrially as a thermal barrier coating (TBC). Presently, there are some problems such as spallation and cracks inside the coating. As one solution given by the development of new spaying processing, the gas tunnel type plasma spraying is one of excellent method to enhance the TBC ...
