Investigating CMAS corrosion in ultrahigh temperature Hf6Ta2O17‐based thermal barrier coatings: A mechanism by which corrosion products hinder corrosion resistance

open access: yesMaterials Genome Engineering Advances, Volume 3, Issue 4, December 2025.
During the corrosion of Hf6Ta2O17 by CMAS, stable corrosion products—CaTa2O6 and HfSiO4 form at the interface, which hinder further corrosion of Hf6Ta2O17 by CMAS. This mechanism successfully explains the excellent CMAS corrosion resistance of the Hf6Ta2O17 thermal barrier coating.

Research progress in ultra-high temperature thermal resistance coatings

open access: yesCailiao gongcheng
As the turbine inlet temperature in aero-engines continues to rise, conventional thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are becoming increasingly ineffective at blocking thermal radiation in the near-infrared wavelength range generated by high-temperature gases.

Exploring the Physical Properties of Novel Inorganic Perovskite AMgBr3 (A = Ga, Na, Tl)

open access: yesNano Select, Volume 6, Issue 12, December 2025.
The band gap values of AMgBr3 (A = Na, Ga, and Tl) perovskites were calculated using various exchange‐correlation functionals such as generalized gradient approximation (GGA)‐Perdew–Burke–Ernzerhof (PBE), GGA‐PBEsol, GGA‐WC, Hybrid HSE06, and Tran–Blaha modified Becke–Johnson (TB‐mBJ) methods.

Molten CMAS resistance strategy for PS-PVD TBCs based on laser textured and Al-modified bionic structure

open access: yesnpj Materials Degradation
Plasma spray-physical vapor deposition (PS-PVD) is a promising third-generation thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) technique. Feather-like columnar TBCs with excellent strain tolerance and low thermal conductivity can be achieved using PS-PVD.

Isothermal oxidation and thermal cyclic behaviors of YSZ and double-layered YSZ/La2Zr2O7 thermal barrier coatings (TBCs)

open access: yesSurface and Coatings Technology, 2018
Abstract TBCs provide protection of superalloy substrates against harsh environments in gas turbine engines. Typical TBCs consist of two main coating layers called bond and top coat. Recently, zirconates have become attractive top coat materials as an alternative to yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) due to their superior thermal properties. Zirconates

Isothermal Oxidation Behavior of Gadolinium Zirconate (Gd2Zr2O7) Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs) produced by Electron Beam Physical Vapor Deposition (EB-PVD) technique

open access: yesOpen Chemistry, 2018
Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs) provide thermal insulation for gas turbine components operating at high temperatures. Generally, TBCs were produced on a MCrAlY bond coat with 7-8% Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) using Atmospheric Plasma Spray (APS ...

Synthesis of yttria by aqueous sol-gel route to develop anti-CMAS coatings for the protection of EBPVD thermal barriers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Anti-CMAS yttria coatings have been prepared by sol-gel routes. Yttria powders with controlled morphology are prepared via auto-combustion of yttrium precursors in a polymerized matrix. The influence of key parameters of the water-based sols is assessed.
