During the corrosion of Hf6Ta2O17 by CMAS, stable corrosion products—CaTa2O6 and HfSiO4 form at the interface, which hinder further corrosion of Hf6Ta2O17 by CMAS. This mechanism successfully explains the excellent CMAS corrosion resistance of the Hf6Ta2O17 thermal barrier coating.

Research progress in ultra-high temperature thermal resistance coatings
As the turbine inlet temperature in aero-engines continues to rise, conventional thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are becoming increasingly ineffective at blocking thermal radiation in the near-infrared wavelength range generated by high-temperature gases.

Exploring the Physical Properties of Novel Inorganic Perovskite AMgBr3 (A = Ga, Na, Tl)
The band gap values of AMgBr3 (A = Na, Ga, and Tl) perovskites were calculated using various exchange‐correlation functionals such as generalized gradient approximation (GGA)‐Perdew–Burke–Ernzerhof (PBE), GGA‐PBEsol, GGA‐WC, Hybrid HSE06, and Tran–Blaha modified Becke–Johnson (TB‐mBJ) methods.

Abstract TBCs provide protection of superalloy substrates against harsh environments in gas turbine engines. Typical TBCs consist of two main coating layers called bond and top coat. Recently, zirconates have become attractive top coat materials as an alternative to yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) due to their superior thermal properties. Zirconates

Synthesis of yttria by aqueous sol-gel route to develop anti-CMAS coatings for the protection of EBPVD thermal barriers [PDF]
Anti-CMAS yttria coatings have been prepared by sol-gel routes. Yttria powders with controlled morphology are prepared via auto-combustion of yttrium precursors in a polymerized matrix. The influence of key parameters of the water-based sols is assessed.
