Calculation methods for thermal analysis

Thermal Plume Area Calculation

A simple formula for the surface area of a thermal plume is proposed, appropriate for application to a depth-limited surface discharge. The formula is based upon thermodynamic and kinematic considerations neglecting hydrodynamics, and will therefore overpredict by the extent to which hydromechanical dilution affects plume size.

A calculation of the thermal expansion of germanium

Abstract The Gruneisen parameters, γ3 j , for a number of the acoustic modes of vibration of Ge have been calculated. The method of calculation is an approximate one which uses the volume dependence of the elastic constants, plus an adjustable parameter which tends to simulate the results of a shell model calculation.
