Enhancement of the Through‐Thickness Electrical Conductivity of Carbon‐Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Using Large Graphite Particles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
To enhance through‐thickness conductivity without sacrificing impregnation, large spherical graphite particles are intentionally employed in a low‐viscosity resin. Unlike finer conductive fillers, these particles remain outside the fiber bundles and accumulate in resin‐rich interlaminar regions during molding.

Phonon transport in amorphous silicon nanowires

open access: yesMoldavian Journal of the Physical Sciences, 2012
Among the perspective research directions in modern physics, an important role is played by the investigation of amorphous nanostructures [1-3]. The effect of the drop in lattice thermal conductivity in these compounds can be used in thermoelectric ...

Impact of the Process Atmosphere During Hot Isostatic Pressing on the Near‐Surface Composition of an Additively Manufactured Austenitic High‐Interstitial Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A high interstital austenitic steel is additively manufactured and postdensified by HIP to eliminate gas porosity. Thereby, the loss of N and Mn in Ar HIP atmosphere is investigated. Further, HIP using N2 atmosphere is investigated which led to excessive nitride formation.

Effect of Heat Treatment on Pore Architecture and Associated Property Charges in Plasma Sprayed TBCs

open access: yes, 2007
Plasma sprayed TBCs exhibit many interlamellar pores, voids and microcracks. These microstructural features are primarily responsible for the low global stiffnesses and the low thermal conductivities commonly exhibited by such coatings.

Electric Field Control of Phonon Lifetimes and Thermal Conductivity in Relaxor-Based Ferroelectric

open access: yesPRX Energy
The demand for high energy efficiency drives intense interest in thermal-management technology. Phonons are a major contributor to heat transfer in solids and controlling them through external stimuli is a key challenge for thermal management due to ...

Anticorrosive Performance of Smart Epoxy Coatings With Poly(urea‐formaldehyde) Microcapsules Filled With 5‐Ethylidene‐2‐norbornene

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
PUF/ENB microcapsules were synthesized based on a sequential factorial design and incorporated into an epoxy matrix. Their anticorrosive action, associated with the self‐healing mechanism, demonstrated that the addition of microcapsules to the coating improved anticorrosive performance compared to pure epoxy coatings, particularly when the encapsulate ...

All‐in‐One Analog AI Hardware: On‐Chip Training and Inference with Conductive‐Metal‐Oxide/HfOx ReRAM Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐in‐one analog AI accelerator is presented, enabling on‐chip training, weight retention, and long‐term inference acceleration. It leverages a BEOL‐integrated CMO/HfOx ReRAM array with low‐voltage operation (<1.5 V), multi‐bit capability over 32 states, low programming noise (10 nS), and near‐ideal weight transfer.

Composites of Shellac and Silver Nanowires as Flexible, Biobased, and Corrosion‐Resistant Transparent Conductive Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Shellac, a centuries‐old natural resin, is reimagined as a green material for flexible electronics. When combined with silver nanowires, shellac films deliver transparency, conductivity, and stability against humidity. These results position shellac as a sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers for transparent conductors in next‐generation ...

DNA‐Templated 2D Heterostructures as Phototriggered Dynamic Nanohybrids: From Releasing Molecular Loads to Controlling Enzyme Biocatalytic Function

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DNA strands are employed both as dynamic linkers and nanoscale templates for the integration of Ag2S nanoparticles on MoS2, which in turn imparted photothermal responsiveness; this feature permits the selective cargo (fluorophore, quantum dots or an enzyme) release from the MoS2 surface in response to local heat induced by light irradiation.

Analysis of thermal-probe measurements using an iterative method to give sample conductivity and diffusivity data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The application of Microsoft Excel Solver routines to analyze data from a thermal probe placed in a number of samples is described. The successful application of the Solver routine to the thermal probe temperature time data requires the selection of an ...
