Abstract Methods for determining the activation energy, rate constant and order of reaction from “flash-filament” desorption experiments are examined. Two heating schedules are considered: (a) a linear variation of sample temperature with time (T = T0+st), and (b) a reciprocal temperature variation ( 1 T = 1 T 0 −αt) .

Thermal Desorption Spectroscopy
2018TDS is a method for the study of adsorption, desorption, and reaction of adsorbed atoms or molecules on surfaces by measuring the desorption rate of desorbing gas from surfaces as a function of sample temperature. The basic concept of this method is that adsorbates with a higher desorption barrier desorb at higher temperature.

Cationic rhodium clusters, Rh(n)(+) (n = 4-8), were prepared in the gas phase by the laser ablation of a Rh rod. The Rh(n)(+) clusters were introduced into a reaction gas cell filled with nitric oxide (NO) diluted with He, where they were subjected to collisions with NO and He in a thermal equilibrium at 300 K.

Direct and thermal desorption of 4He films
Physics Letters A, 1983We have studied desorption from a ^4He film due to a hot but low-intensity beam of phonons incident from a sapphire substrate. Time of flight spectra of the desorbed atoms revealed two distinct peaks which we attribute to direct desorption by substrate phonons and to thermalization with subsequent desorption.

Kinetic theory of thermal desorption
