Impact of surface roughness on diffusion of confined fluids

open access: yes, 2011
Using event-driven molecular dynamics simulations, we quantify how the self diffusivity of confined hard-sphere fluids depends on the nature of the confining boundaries.

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Effect of Oxygen Content on Surface and Subsurface Integrity During Turning of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how oxygen content in the ambient atmosphere affects the surface and subsurface properties of Ti–6Al–4V during turning. Results show that oxygen does not influence surface roughness. However, machining in an extremely high vacuum‐adequate atmosphere increases surface hardness by up to 7.8% and induces compressive residual stresses ...

Space processing of electronic materials [PDF]

open access: yes
The relative values of thermal conductivity of solid and liquid HgCdTe are critically important in the design configuration of the furnaces used for Bridgman crystal growth. The thermal diffusivity of the material is closely linked to the conductivity by

Photoacoustic thermal diffusion flowmetry

open access: yesBiomedical Optics Express, 2012
Thermal Diffusion Flowmetry (TDF) (also called Heat Clearance Method or Thermal Clearance Method) is a longstanding technique for measuring blood flow or blood perfusion in living tissues. Typically, temperature transients and/or gradients are induced in a volume of interest and the temporal and/or spatial temperature variations which follow are ...

Oxide‐Free Titanium Coatings by Wire Arc Spraying in a Silane‐Doped Inert Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A silane‐doped argon atmosphere enables the production of oxide‐free titanium coatings via twin‐wire arc spraying at ambient pressure. This innovative approach eliminates residual oxygen, creating process conditions that prevent oxidation and nitride formation.

Enhancing Strength and Electrical Conductivity in Al–Zr–Sc Conductor Alloys Through Sn and Sr Microalloying and Two‐Step Aging Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Trace additions of Sn and Sr combined with a two‐step aging treatment are shown to enhance the microstructure and performance of Al–Zr–Sc conductor alloys. Strength and electrical conductivity increase concurrently through accelerated precipitation of fine Al3(Sc, Zr) precipitates and improved dislocation resistance, offering a cost‐effective pathway ...

Thermal Diffusivity of Glass Ceramic Synthesized from Soda Lime and Coal Fly Ash [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Glass ceramics are polycrystalline materials of fine microstructure that are produced by the controlled crystallization of a glass. The previous review of other researchers revealed that knowledge and expertise has been accumulated on the process of ...

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...
