Testing and Simulation of Multilayer Polyvinylidene Fluoride‐Based Piezoelectric Energy Harvester Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The study considers the use of polymer/dielectric‐based multilayers piezoelectric Energy Harvesters (EH) to produce an output voltage and current, by exploiting the mechanical energy provided by human organs movements. In particular, the heart motion is considered from the kinematic viewpoint, and a multiphysics theoretical model is developed to assess

A Soft Robotic Device for Targeted Massage Therapy of Residual Limbs

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Residual limb edema after amputation can hinder recovery and delay prosthetic fitting. This study presents a soft‐robotic wearable device that delivers sequential compression through pneumatic McKibben actuators. By replicating the principles of manual lymphatic drainage, the device generates controlled mechanotherapeutic pressure patterns, providing a

Evaluation of Local Thermal Discomfort in a Classroom Equipped with Cross Flow Ventilation [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ventilation, 2008
AbstractThis paper presents an evaluation of the local thermal discomfort level in a classroom equipped with cross ventilation, for a typical moderate summer day in Portugal. Three different ventilation configurations based on window and door opening were considered.

Canagliflozin Alleviates Diabetic Glomerular Endothelial Injury via Melibiose in a Microbiota‐Dependent Manner

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Canagliflozin treatment reshapes the gut microbiota in DKD and elevates levels of melibiose, a metabolite derived from Roseburia intestinalis. Melibiose directly binds to and enhances the enzymatic activity of glyoxalase 1, leading to decreased methylglyoxal accumulation.

Evaluating the Urban Heat Island Effect in Montreal: Urban Density, Vegetation, Demographic, and Thermal Landscape Analysis

open access: yesBuildings
Montreal experiences a significant urban heat island (UHI) effect, potentially intensified by its dense urban structure, varied vegetation, and demographic distribution, leading to substantial outdoor thermal discomfort, especially during heatwaves.

Time‐Multiplexed Organic Electrochemical Transistor for Saliva‐Based Rapid Detection of Viral Proteins

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A time‐multiplexed nanobody‐functionalized organic electrochemical transistor enables rapid and sensitive detection of three respiratory viral proteins from saliva. Sequentially addressed multi‐gate electrodes on a shared channel achieve around 1 fm detection within 15 min without sample preprocessing. Clinical validation demonstrates high specificity,

Predicting local thermal discomfort adjacent to glazing. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The sensations of thermal discomfort in the near-window regions of rooms may be significant. Close to windows occupants may be directly exposed to both transmitted solar irradiation and enhanced long wave radiation exchange due to window surfaces that ...
