Quasi‐Classical Trajectory of Thermal Neutrons in Elastically Deformed Crystals
physica status solidi (b), 1989AbstractThe propagation of thermal neutrons through distorted crystals is reconsidered on the basis of an adiabatic quantum mechanical approach which enables one to derive quasi‐classical trajectories of neutrons for an arbitrary elastic deformation of a crystal. It is shown that the quasi‐classical concept is generally applicable even in the case when

Double pane windows—elastic deformations, gas thermodynamics, thermal and optical phenomena
European Journal of Physics, 2014Double pane windows are common objects which can enrich physics teaching at undergraduate level at least in five different fields. First, having sealed inner spaces filled with gas, one can discuss gas law problems upon changes of pressure and/or temperature.

Thermally-activated atomic rearrangements in elastically deformed metallic glasses
Materials Chemistry and Physics, 2011Abstract This study investigates by molecular dynamics the response of model metallic glasses to artificial atom displacements at increasing deformation degrees. Glasses are shown to contain unstable regions that spontaneously rearrange under deformation.

Analysis of thermal stress and deformation in elastically bonded optics
SPIE Proceedings, 2007This paper discusses analytical equations and finite-element models for thermal stresses and deformations caused by continuous edge, three-point and face elastomeric bonds. Analytical equations for the athermalized edge bond thickness are derived where possible and verified by finite-element solutions.

Deformation Due to Mechanical and Thermal Sources in Magneto‐Micropolar Elastic Medium
Multidiscipline Modeling in Materials and Structures, 2007The present investigation is concerned with a two‐dimensional problem in electromagnetic micropolar elasticity for a half‐space whose surface is subjected to mechanical or thermal source in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. Laplace and Fourier transform technique is used to solve the problem.

The nanomechanical response for a nanobeam under thermal effects is investigated by using the nonlocal elasticity field theory, which was first proposed by Eringen in the early 1970s. The nonlocal constitutive relation is adopted to determine the strain energy density which considers the history of nonlinear straining with respect to an unstrained ...

Thermal contact conductance of elastically deforming nominally flat surfaces using fractal geometry
Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, 2013Purpose – This work aims at constructing a continuous mathematical, linear elastic, model for the thermal contact conductance (TCC) of two rough surfaces in contact. Design/methodology/approach – The rough surfaces, known to be physical fractal, are modelled using
