Nonlinear Thermal Bending for Shear Deformable Nanobeams Based on Nonlocal Elasticity Theory
International Journal of Aerospace and Lightweight Structures (IJALS) -, 2011Nonlinear bending of shear deformable nanobeams subject to a temperature field is investigated in this paper based on von Karman type nonlinearity and nonlocal elasticity theory. By using the variational principle approach, new higher-order governing differential equations and the corresponding higher-order boundary conditions both in the transverse ...

Prediction of the Deformation in Stereolithography Products Based on Elastic Thermal Shrinkage
Polymer-Plastics Technology and Engineering, 1998Abstract Deformation of some specimens produced by a stereolithography system was studied experimentally and numerically. Three steps in the rapid prototyping process (part building, part removal, and postcure) imposed significant effects on dimensional accuracy. Dimensions of the specimens were measured after each step. Distortion during part building

Large welding-induced distortions are inevitably generated in a thin-plate welded joint due to its weak stiffness. In this study, an equivalent thermal strain method based on inherent strain theory is proposed to predict the welding deformation of thin ...

Turbulent Lubrication of Tilting-Pad Thrust Bearings With Thermal and Elastic Deformations
Journal of Tribology, 1985Pad deformations of sector-shaped, tilting-pad thrust bearings affecting turbulent lubrication are discussed theoretically. Solving the lubrication and energy equations with turbulence and centrifugal forces and the elastic and moment balance equations of a pad simultaneously, film pressure and temperature distributions, thermal and elastic ...

Nonlinear thermal dynamic response of shear deformable FGM plates on elastic foundations
Journal of Thermal Stresses, 2016ABSTRACTThis paper investigates the nonlinear dynamic response of thick functionally graded materials (FGM) plates using the third-order shear deformation plate theory and stress function. The FGM plate is assumed to rest on elastic foundations and subjected to thermal and damping loads.

Thermal activation of atomic rearrangements in elastically deformed Ni50Zr50 metallic glasses
Materials Chemistry and Physics, 2012Abstract Elastically deformed metallic glasses were submitted to perturbations consisting of small individual atom displacements. The response, studied by molecular dynamics, pointed out the existence of unstable regions in which displacements induce local rearrangements. The displacement length at which these occur decreases with strain.

Thermal Fracture Resistance of Ceramic Coatings Applied to Metal: I, Elastic Deformation
Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1959A study was made of the resistance to thermal fracture of four ceramic coatings of the cobalt‐bearing ground‐coat type applied to enameling‐grade iron specimens. The study was made of coated‐metal systems in the unsteady state, symmetrically cooled, and in the absence of viscous or plastic flow.
