A mixed thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication model of rotary lip seal. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Prog, 2020
Rotary lip seal is used in various applications where the rotation shaft needs to be sealed, such as hydraulic pumps, fuel pumps, camshafts, crankshafts, and so on. Many thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication models of rotary lip seal have been introduced, and most of these models neglect the asperity contact.

Thermal Elastohydrodynamic Analysis of a Worm Gear

open access: yesMachines, 2023
This study explores the elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) between the contacting tooth flanks of a worm gear with nonconjugate meshing action. The contact is characterized by a slender-like elliptical shape and high sliding. The geometry and contact conditions for the considered worm gear were obtained using tooth contact analysis.

Thermal Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication Analysis of Bevel Gear based on a Finite Line Contact Model

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2019
In order to study the thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication mechanism of bevel gears, based on the theory of elastohydrodynamic lubrication, a finite line contact model is established and the thermal elastohydrodynamic characteristics of straight bevel ...

Some important aspects of thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication

open access: yesProceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2010
Thermal effect in elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) has been the subject of study for the last four decades; however, some important aspects related to the physical behaviour of the lubricant in response to pressure, temperature, and shear rate remain largely neglected. This paper presents a brief review of the thermal EHL literature and sheds light

Adjoint Error Estimation for Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this thesis, adjoint error estimation techniques are applied to complex elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) problems. A functional is introduced, namely the friction, and justification is provided as to why this quantity, and hence its accuracy, is ...

Adaptive Numerical Methods for Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Numerical solutions to elastohydrodynamic lubrication problems have been computed for the last half century. Over the past decade multilevel techniques have been successfully applied in several solvers and significant speed-ups achieved.

Experimental and numerical analysis of thermal elastohydrodynamic contacts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The temperature behaviour of elastohydrodynamically lubricated contacts, such as those found in gears, cams and rolling bearings, is a key parameter relating to machine efficiency. This thesis presents an infrared microscopy technique capable of measuring the temperature of both the bounding surfaces and the oil film in an elastohydrodynamic contact ...

High Order Finite Element Solution of Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication Problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In this thesis, a high-order finite element scheme, based upon the Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method, is introduced to solve one- and two-dimensional Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication (EHL) problems (line contact and point contact). This thesis provides an

The Role of Fragility in Thermal Elastohydrodynamics

open access: yesTribology Letters, 2022
Abstract Temperature primarily influences thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication (TEHL) through the temperature dependence of the viscosity of the liquid. The pressure and temperature dependences of viscosity increase rapidly as the glassy state is approached from the liquid state, a property known as fragility.

Study of film formation in EHD contacts using a novel method based on electrical capacitance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University. The elastohydrodynamic lubrication regime (EHD) is found in many machine elements, such as rolling element bearings, gears, cam/tappet, where a combination ...
