Transient mixed thermo-elastohydrodynamic lubrication in multi-speed transmissions [PDF]
Noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) refinement as well as thermo-mechanical efficiency are the key design attributes of modern compact multi-speed transmissions.

Positive Effect of Periodic Micropatterns on Compression Ring Friction
For internal combustion engines, reducing friction is becoming increasingly important to reduce emissions. It is shown that laser‐interference‐induced microtextures on amorphous carbon‐coated piston rings are able to significantly reduce the friction of the piston assembly when tested in single‐cylinder engines.

Transient torque reversals in indirect drive wind turbines
Abstract The adverse effect of transient torque reversals (TTRs) on wind turbine gearboxes can be severe due to their magnitude and rapid occurrence compared with other equipment. The primary damage is caused to the bearings as the bearing loaded zone rapidly changes its direction.

Tribology of dust‐stop seals of mixing machines
Abstract Dust stop seals are widely used in powder and rubber mixing industries. Design of the sealing system requires a continuous supply of pressurised lubricant, which is not recycled because of the risk of contamination. There is also the potential of large volume leakage of oil due to poor sealing, increasing operational costs and necessitating ...

Cavitation induced starvation for piston-ring/liner tribological conjunction [PDF]
The study investigates the mechanism of ring-liner lubrication in the vicinity of the top and bottom dead centres of an internal combustion engine. Predicting lubricant transient behaviour is critical when the inlet reversal leads to thin films and ...

A Numerical Study on Thermal Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Coated Polymers [PDF]
AbstractThe application of polymers in power-transmitting machine elements, e.g., gears, is limited by moderate thermo-mechanical properties and the detrimental accumulation of contact heat, even with external lubrication. Hence, polymer rolling–sliding elements are often prone to thermo-mechanical overload or abrasive wear.

Power Law Fluid Model for Thermal Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication
The aim of this paper is to analyse thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication (TEHL) line contact of rolling a bearing using a non-Newtonian uid that is described by the power law model. The performance characteristics of the rolling bearing are determined for various index for dilatant, Newtonian and pseudo plastic uids.
