Berreman Embedded Eigenstates for Narrow-Band Absorption and Thermal Emission [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Applied, 2020
Embedded eigenstates are nonradiative modes of an open structure with momentum compatible with radiation, yet characterized by unboundedly large Q-factors. Traditionally, these states originate from total destructive interference of radiation from two or more non-orthogonal modes in periodic structures.

Methodology Development for Calibration Assessment Using Quasi‐Deep Convective Clouds With Application to Aqua MODIS TEB

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, 2020
Deep convective clouds (DCC) are identified by using a combination of brightness temperature (BT) and visible reflectance thresholds. Moreover, it is common practice to use daytime DCC measurements for the calibration assessment of reflective solar and ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Artificial Intelligence in Systemic Sclerosis: Clinical Applications, Challenges, and Future Directions

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune disease defined by immune dysregulation, vasculopathy, and progressive fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Despite advances in care, major complications such as interstitial lung disease (ILD) and myocardial involvement remain the leading causes of morbidity and mortality.

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

MODIS Photovoltaic Thermal Emissive Bands Electronic Crosstalk Solution and Lessons Learned

open access: yesRemote Sensing
The photovoltaic (PV) bands on the mid-wave and long-wave infrared (MWIR and LWIR) cold focal plane assemblies of Terra and Aqua MODIS have suffered from gradually increasing electronic crosstalk contamination as both instruments have continued to ...

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

The Effects of VIIRS Detector-Level and Band-Averaged Relative Spectral Response Differences Between S-NPP and NOAA-20 on the Thermal Emissive Bands

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, 2019
The Joint Polar Satellite System-1 (renamed NOAA-20 after reaching the polar orbit) was successfully launched on November 18, 2017, into an afternoon orbit with a local equator crossing time of ~1:30 p.m., in the same orbital plane as the Suomi National ...
