Machine Tool Thermal Error Reduction—an Appraisal

open access: yesProceedings of the I MECH E Part B Journal of Engineering Manufacture, 1999
It has been shown that machine tool thermal distortion can account for 75 per cent of the total machining error. As a result there has been a great deal of interest in techniques for reducing thermal errors. The approaches taken to thermal error reduction can be divided into two broad categories of reducing structural temperature change and reducing ...

Error analysis of thermal response tests

Applied Energy, 2013
Abstract The ground thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance are essential parameters for the design of a ground source heat pump system. As it is hardly possible to obtain sufficiently accurate values of these parameters from geological or soil-profile information, thermal response tests have been developed that provide measurements in ...

The application of ANFIS prediction models for thermal error compensation on CNC machine tools

open access: yesApplied Soft Computing Journal, 2015
Thermal errors can have significant effects on CNC machine tool accuracy. The errors come from thermal deformations of the machine elements caused by heat sources within the machine structure or from ambient temperature change.

Thermal Error Measurement and Real Time Compensation System for the CNC Machine Tools Incorporating the Spindle Thermal Error and the Feed Axis Thermal Error

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2002
Thermally induced errors have been significant factors affecting machine tool accuracy. In this paper, the thermal spindle error and thermal feed axis error have been considered, and a measurement/compensation system for thermal error is introduced. Several modelling techniques for thermal errors are also implemented for the thermal error prediction; i.

Errors of thermal-energy measurements

Measurement Techniques, 2000
It is shown that systematic errors play a significant role in thermal-energy measurements while random errors are negligible. Algebraic summation of the error components is recommended for evaluation of the errors of heat meters; quadratic summation is recommended for evaluation of thermal-energy errors.
