Thermally induced positioning error modelling and compensation based on thermal characteristic analysis

International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2015
Abstract To decrease the thermally induced positioning error of machine tools, a novel approach for modelling and compensation is proposed in this study. The cause of this error is determined to be dynamic pitch error, and its manifestations are discussed in this study.

Thermal Error Modelling in CNC Machines

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
Latest trend in increasing the performance characteristics of precision machines is reducing error in machines. Today research is focused on Machine tool accuracy. The effect of thermal error contributes to major part of 70% of volumetric error. The present study aims to establish a new compensation method for CNC Turning centre.

Thermal Error Modeling of Precision Positioning Stage

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
As the thermal deformation significantly impacts the accuracy of precision positioning stage, it is necessary to realize the thermal error. The thermal deformation of the positioning stage is simulated by the finite element analysis. The relationship between the temperature variation and thermal error is fitted third-order polynomial function whose ...

Robust Machine Tool Thermal Error Modeling Through Thermal Mode Concept

Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering, 2008
Thermal errors are among the most significant contributors to machine tool errors. Successful reduction in thermal errors has been realized through thermal error compensation techniques in the past few decades. The effectiveness of thermal error models directly determines the compensation results.
