Role of Intrinsic Electron Trapping in Negative Charging of Amorphous Alumina

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intrinsic electron trapping in amorphous Al2O3 is examined using hybrid‐DFT models spanning a wide density range. Both spontaneous and thermally activated trapping are identified, with pronounced spontaneous localization in dense, partly crystallized structures.

Thermal Modelling of the Ventilation and Cooling inside Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Generators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Axial flux permanent magnet generators are of particular interest for power generation in harsh and confined conditions. Due to their compactness and high power density, the ventilation and cooling inside axial flux permanent magnet generators have ...

Self-Energy approximation for the running coupling constant in thermal ϕ 4 theory using Imaginary Time Formalism

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We investigate the temperature dependence of the mass scale, running coupling constant, and running mass in thermal ϕ 4 theory using the Imaginary Time Formalism (ITF).

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.

Group thermal response testing for energy piles

open access: yes, 2015
Thermal response testing is an in situ technique for characterising the thermal conductivity of the ground around a borehole heat exchanger. The test has seen renewed interest in recent years as an increasing number of ground heat exchangers are being ...

A Goldstone theorem in thermal relativistic quantum field theory

open access: yes, 2011
We prove a Goldstone theorem in thermal relativistic quantum field theory, which relates spontaneous symmetry breaking to the rate of spacelike decay of the two-point function. The critical rate of fall-off coincides with that of the massless free scalar

Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Window into the Early Stages of Complex Material Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,

Introduction to the theory of thermal neutron scattering

open access: yes, 2012
Since the advent of the nuclear reactor, thermal neutron scattering has proved a valuable tool for studying many properties of solids and liquids, and research workers are active in the field at reactor centres and universities throughout the world. This

Relativistic quantum Otto engine: instant work extraction from a quantum field

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
In this study, we carry out a non-perturbative approach to a quantum Otto engine, employing an Unruh-DeWitt particle detector to extract work from a quantum Klein-Gordon field in an arbitrary globally hyperbolic curved spacetime.

Strain‐Programmable Luminescent Adhesive Patch With Tartrazine‐Mediated Optical Skin Clearing for Photochemical Tissue Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,
