Ocean Thermal Gradient Hydraulic Power Plant

Solar energy stored in the oceans may be used to generate power by exploiting thermal gradients. A proposed open-cycle system uses low-pressure steam to elevate water, which is then run through a hydraulic turbine to generate power. The device is analogous to an air lift pump.
