Thermal imaging for affect detection
Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments, 2013In this paper, we explore a thermal imaging approach to sensing affective state. Using features extracted from a thermal map of the face, obtained from a dataset consisting of 70 recordings of positive, negative, or neutral states, we show that we can effectively predict the presence of affect, with an error reduction of up to 50% as compared to a ...

Temporal behavior of thermal images
Applied Optics, 1985The temporal behavior of the contrast in a thermal image is related to the temporal change of the radiance statistics over such an image. It is shown that, due to the statistical distribution of the thermal properties over an object, the statistics of the radiance vary with time during temporal changes in the heat balance.

Noise Reduction in Thermal Images
2014In this cognitive work we focused on investigation of some filters used for image processing in application for noise removal in IR images. In IR imaging the choice of filter depends mainly on the purpose of the processing, e.g. detection of small objects in complex images, edge and contour detection or removal of non-uniformity of the detector array ...

Precision Thermal Imaging of the Extremities
Orthopedics, 1986Precision thermal imaging can give valuable physiological information which is not obtainable by any other means. It is particularly useful for follow up because it is painless and noninvasive. Meticulous attention to technique is necessary. A strict pre-examination protocol must be adhered to. Proper equilibration with ambient temperature is essential.

Clinical thermal imaging today
IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Magazine, 1998In order to make thermal imaging a universally acceptable clinical technique, one must try to understand what is being observed, and what the observation signifies. One must also prove the validity of hypotheses about underlying causes of a given local hyper or hypothermia.
