Self‐Seeded Nucleation of PET in a Benign Solvent Yields a High Modulus Aerogel With Ultra‐Low Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A new benign solvent (1,3‐diphenylacetone) enables a simple, safe, and sustainable dissolution and gelation method to convert waste PET into low density, monolithic aerogels with high mechanical strength (E = 20 MPa) and remarkably low thermal conductivity (k = 21.9 to 28.9 mW/m·K).

Viking infrared thermal mapper

Applied Optics, 1978
The infrared thermal mapper (IRTM) was designed to measure the emitted and reflected radiance of Mars. Carried by the Viking Orbiter, the IRTM contains four small Cassegrainian telescopes which each image the same, seven circular areas. There is a total of twenty-eight channels in four surface and one atmospheric thermal bands from 6 microm to 30 ...

Infrared thermal imaging in medicine

Physiological Measurement, 2012
This review describes the features of modern infrared imaging technology and the standardization protocols for thermal imaging in medicine. The technique essentially uses naturally emitted infrared radiation from the skin surface. Recent studies have investigated the influence of equipment and the methods of image recording.

An Infrared Thermal Detection System

2015
Anybody whose temperature differs from absolute zero (0K) emits and absorbs electromagnetic radiation coming from, one hand, the physico-chemical nature and on the other hand, the action of intrinsic mechanisms of vibrational energies of the molecules. In this paper, we propose a robot that exploits this characteristic to detect and to track a thermal ...

Infrared Thermal Velocimetry

Heat Transfer: Volume 7 — Heat Transfer in Electronic Equipment, Student Research, and Visualization Techniques, 2001
Abstract Infrared thermal velocimetry is a new technique for the measurement of flow velocity. This non-intrusive technique was used to measure the velocity in a channel. In detail, a pulse of several milliseconds of a 5W CO2 laser generates a transient temperature response in a flowing liquid.
