Near-infrared laser thermal conjunctivoplasty

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
AbstractConjunctivochalasis is a common cause of tear dysfunction due to the conjunctiva becoming loose and wrinkly with age. The current solutions to this disease include either surgical excision in the operating room, or thermoreduction of the loose tissue with hot wire in the clinic.

Engineering Intelligent Graphene Oxide‐Cellulose Membranes: Suppressing Thermal Runaway for a Safer Aqueous Zinc‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel thermos‐responsive hydroxypropyl cellulose/graphene oxide (HPC/GO) composite membrane is fabricated for reversible temperature‐gated ion transport in aqueous zinc‐ion batteries. Enabled by LCST‐driven structural transition, unimpeded ion diffusion at room temperature delivers high capacity, while elevated temperature suppresses transport; full ...

Silicified Wood‐Inspired, High‐Strength Fire‐Resistant Chitin‐Based Aerogels for Sustainable High‐Temperature Thermal Insulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by natural silicified wood, a biomimetic mineralized chitin‐derived aerogel is constructed. It can withstand 81 000 times its own weight, and its backside temperature is 130.4°C after exposure to ∼1300°C butane flame for 600 s, exhibiting high‐strength, fire‐resistance, and super thermal‐insulation properties.
