Terminology in thermal infrared remote sensing of natural surfaces

Remote Sensing Reviews, 1995
Abstract A consistent nomenclature for thermal infrared remote sensing of natural surfaces is outlined in this paper. Terms such as “canopy temperature” and “surface temperature” should be confined to general, qualitative descriptions and terms such as directional radiometric temperature, hemispherical emissivity, aerodynamic temperature, or ...

Water stress detection using hyperspectral thermal infrared remote sensing

2015 7th Workshop on Hyperspectral Image and Signal Processing: Evolution in Remote Sensing (WHISPERS), 2015
During summer 2014 a water treatment experiment was adopted on potatoes plants (Solanum tuberosum L. Cilena, n=60) with the objective to detect plant water stress. Therefore, three different sensors were applied, a hyperspectral and broadband thermal infrared (TIR) camera to measure canopy temperature, as well as a leaf porometer to measure stomatal ...

Subpixel Temperature Estimation from Low Resolution Thermal Infrared Remote Sensing

IGARSS 2008 - 2008 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2008
The paper presents a new methodology adapted to the downscaling of low resolution IRT signals, i.e. the estimation of subpixel temperatures. The approach is based on the inversion of subpixel variables by multilinear regressions constrained by a priori temperature estimates provided by a physical land surface model.

Use of Thermal Infrared Remote Sensing for Targeting Mineral Deposits

IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019
We review a collection of recent mineral discoveries made by major and junior mining companies in various geological environments and show how Aster thermal imagery could have been used to facilitate such discoveries. This process of hindsight exploration confirms that Aster thermal imagery is an effective tool for mineral exploration under cover and ...

Survey of thermal infrared remote sensing for Unmanned Aerial Systems

2014 International Conference on Unmanned Aircraft Systems (ICUAS), 2014
As Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) technology matures, the list of potential civilian applications continues to grow substantially. Currently, the majority of applications are centered around providing optical imagery, either in real-time video or high resolution mapping.

Comments on Kirchhoff's law in thermal-infrared remote sensing

International Journal of Remote Sensing, 1997
Abstract In this Letter the results of applicability of Kirchhoff 's law as given by Salisbury and coworkers are discussed. In their paper, experimental evidence on the violation of Kirchhoff 's law for heterogeneous temperature regimes was given. In this Letter the hypothesis of the existence of a single 'sample temperature' resulting in measured ...

Exploration of geothermal systems using hyperspectral thermal infrared remote sensing

Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, 2013
Abstract Visible near infrared (VNIR), short-wave infrared (SWIR), and thermal infrared (TIR) remote sensing has long been used for geothermal exploration. Specific focus on the TIR region (8–12 μm) has resulted in major-rock-forming mineral classes being identified and their areal percentages to be more easily mapped due in part to the linear mixing

Remote Infrared Thermal Sensing of Sewer Voids, Four-Year Update

SPIE Proceedings, 1988
When a sewer caves in, it often takes the street, sidewalks, and surrounding buildings along for the ride. These collapses endanger public health and safety. Repairing a sewer before such a cave-in is obviously the preferred method. Emergency repairs cost far more than prevention measures - often millions of dollars more. Many combined sewers in the St.
