Degradation of a Multilayer Insulation Due to a Seam and a Penetration [PDF]

open access: yes
The degradation of the thermal performance of a multilayer insulation due to the presence of a seam and a penetration was studied. The multilayer insulation had 30 aluminized Mylar radiation shields with silk net spacers.

Defect‐Mediated Scintillation in Fully Inorganic Perovskites via Water‐Induced 0D/3D Phase Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A reproducible synthesis to control 3D/0D phase ratios via water‐tuned solvent–antisolvent methods is presented. Enhanced scintillation yield and ultrafast decay are achieved. Defect‐driven emission mechanisms are revealed through cathodoluminescence and radioluminescence, shedding light on the underexplored role of the 0D Cs4PbBr6 and mixed 0D/3D ...

Modification of Octavinyl POSS and Its Effect on the Mechanical Properties and Thermal Stability of Silicone Rubber/POSS Composites

open access: yesNanomaterials
Octavinyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) can be used to improve the thermal stability of silicone rubber (SR). However, POSS nanoparticles tend to agglomerate in SR matrix, negatively affecting the reinforcement role of POSS for SR, and ...

Design and evaluation of thin metal surface insulation for hypersonic flight [PDF]

open access: yes
An all-metal insulation was studied as a thermal protection system for hypersonic vehicles. Key program goals included fabricating the insulation in thin packages which are optimized for high temperature insulation of an actively cooled aluminum ...

High-temperature, reusable surface insulation system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
System is capable of withstanding extreme temperature environments ranging from -250 to 2300 F (116 K to 1543 K). System includes impervious, high-density, high-thermal-emittance outer coating which has low coefficient of thermal expansion matching that ...

Direct Evidence of Topological Dirac Fermions in a Low Carrier Density Correlated 5d Oxide

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The 5d oxide BiRe2O6 is discovered as a low‐carrier‐density topological semimetal hosting symmetry‐protected Dirac fermions stabilized by nonsymmorphic symmetries. Angle‐resolved photoemission spectroscopy, quantum oscillations, and magnetotransport measurements reveal gapless Dirac cones, quasi‐2D Fermi surfaces, high carrier mobility, and a field ...

Thermal analysis and energy-efficient solutions to preserve listed building façades. The INA-Casa building heritage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Energy efficiency of building heritage derived from pre-regulation period is one of the most debated topics in Europe. Building facades, through opaque walls and thermal bridges, are a major source of transmission heat losses and require sustainable and ...

Backbone Heterojunction Photocatalysts for Efficient Sacrificial Hydrogen Production

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, a ‘single‐component’ organic semiconductor photocatalyst is presented in which a molecular donor is bonded to a polymer acceptor. The resultant material demonstrates exceptional photocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution in aqueous triethylamine with an outstanding external quantum efficiency of 38% at 420 nm.
