Modifications of the Thermal Theory
1979The first systematic observations of conditions in the upper layers of the atmosphere had created doubts as to the exclusive validity of the thermal theory of cyclones. Following Hann’s demand, a number of meteorologists began to reexamine the daily synoptic charts in the light of upper air observations.

Thermal Modifications of Ethnic Hair
2016The application of heat to straighten and style hair is often a major component in the hair care routine for women of all races. This chapter will discuss the chemical changes that occur with thermal straightening, the process behind it, frequently used thermal styling tools, and resultant heat-induced hair damage associated with this hairstyling ...

Thermal Expansions and Chemical Modifications of Cordierite
Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1980The small differences in thermal expansion behavior between stoichiometric cordierites fabricated by different methods were measured using an XRD film method which records the complete diffraction patterns, at two temperatures, on one film. Examples of the extensive chemical family that can be obtained with this structure type are given and their ...

Modifications of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs)
Surface and Coatings Technology, 1997Abstract To develop highly efficient gas turbines, thermal barrier coating systems with a high reliability and a long lifetime under severe operating conditions are required. The failure of TBC-systems is caused by thermal cycling conditions, oxidation attack, and insufficient adhesion at the interfaced the ceramic coating and the bond coat.

A Modification of the Theory of the Thermal Diffusion Column
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1950Thermal diffusion measurements were made for the system argon-neon over a pressure range from 4–108 atmospheres. It is found that the classical theory of Furry, Jones, and Onsager is inadequate to describe the results obtained on a series of carefully constructed thermal diffusion columns.

Ion Beam Modification and Thermal Oxidation
JOM, 1984Surface modifications of metals and alloys by ion beams are discussed from the point of view of thermal oxidation. A brief description of a commercial ion accelerator and a few widely used ion sources are given. The microscopic processes such as recoil, collision cascades, and radiation-enhanced diffusion that accompany the ion beam processing are ...

Temporal and Spatial Modification of Thermal Radiation
2019 IEEE CPMT Symposium Japan (ICSJ), 2019In this paper, two different plasmonic metasurfaces are proposed to manipulate the optical properties of the corresponding thermal radiation. First of all, a tunable metasurface is proposed as a narrowband thermal emitter with wavelength tunability. Second, we demonstrate that the thermal radiation from an extending heated source can be focused to be ...

Modification of MWNTs obtained by thermal-CVD
Diamond and Related Materials, 2007Abstract In the present work multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), which were synthesized on uncoated silicon by an easily scaled-up catalytical chemical vapor deposition (CVD), were subjected to three different functionalization treatments. Both acid treatment, by means of a HNO 3 –H 2 SO 4 1:3 mixture or chlorosulfuric acid (HSO 3 Cl) solution, and
