Thermal neutrons Gd-detector

Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1968
Abstract A thermal neutrons detector, based on the measurement of the current of conversion electrons from a Gd target has been realized. Its principal features are the immediate response to flux variations and a good γ selectivity.

Thermal neutron for 241Pu

Journal of Nuclear Energy. Part A. Reactor Science, 1959
The average number oi neutrons per fission nu of Pu/sup 241/ was measured at thermal energies relative to Pu/sup 239/, U/sup 235/, and U/sup 233/. The measurement yielded the product of nu and the effective fission cross- section (g sigma /sub F/) nu = 3162 plus or minus 72 barn neutrons/fission. Using a measured value (g sigma /sub F/,) = 1070 plus or

Neutron Thermalization in Graphite

Journal of Nuclear Science and Technology, 1973
The neutron thermalization and diffusion parameters in graphite were determined by pulsed technique for the neutron flux and the neutron density spectra, respectively. Measurements were performed on assemblies of geometrical bucklings between 2.26×10−3/cm2 and 15.58 × 10−3/cm2, in which, by suitable arrangement of the neutron source and detector, the ...

Neutron thermalization in graphite

Journal of Nuclear Energy, 1968
Abstract The neutron thermalization process for an incident neutron pulse in a moderating assembly has so far been treated by solving the Boltzmann equation in the diffusion approximation with scattering kernel based on theoretical models. In this paper, the mean energy, E (t) and average logarithmic energy decrement, ξ for an infinite medium

Polarizer for thermal neutrons

Physics Bulletin, 1977
The interaction between the neutron and electron spin provides a unique tool for studying the distribution of magnetism in solids. Neutron scattering measurements with magnetic materials are particularly sensitive when the spin state of the neutron is defined, that is when the neutron beams are polarized.

Thermal diffusion of neutrons

Journal of Nuclear Energy. Parts A/B. Reactor Science and Technology, 1963
Abstract The effect of non-uniform temperature upon stationary distributions of thermal neutrons in extended non-absorbing media is studied on the basis of transport theory. Expressions are given by which the thermal diffusion factor, along with the coefficient of ordinary diffusion, can be computed for any given scattering law.
