Use of thermal-neutron probes to measure thermal-neutron flux of distributions

Soviet Atomic Energy, 1979
At the present time considerable attention is being paid to the monitoring of energy release in the cores of nuclear reactors for various purposes [i]. Exact and reliable measurement of the neutron fields in reactor cores requires continuous improvement of old experimental methods and development of new ones.

Thermal neutron standards

Metrologia, 2011
Over the 50-year history of Section III (Neutron Measurements) of the Consultative Committee for Ionizing Radiation of the International Committee for Weights and Measures, only a single interlaboratory comparison of thermal neutron measurements has been completed, although a new comparison of this kind is in progress at the time of this writing.

Neutron thermalization in graphite

Journal of Nuclear Energy, 1968
Abstract The neutron thermalization process for an incident neutron pulse in a moderating assembly has so far been treated by solving the Boltzmann equation in the diffusion approximation with scattering kernel based on theoretical models. In this paper, the mean energy, E (t) and average logarithmic energy decrement, ξ for an infinite medium

Thermalization of Neutrons

2017
Neutrons reach thermal energy following successive collisions with moderator nuclides provided they are neither absorbed nor leak out of the reactor. At this point, they can either lose energy by collision or gain energy if the target nucleus is itself in thermal motion, and can thus transfer momentum to the neutrons.

Thermal neutron detection

2006
This chapter concerns the detection of neutrons having thermal and epithermal energies in the range 0.0002–10 eV (20–0.1 A). Topics covered include neutron capture, neutron detection processes and electronic aspects of neutron detection. Typical detection systems and their characteristics are described.

Thermal Neutron Holography

2009
X-ray and neutron diffraction techniques have for almost a century produced results that provide important insights into materials of interest to a wide range of scientific and technological disciplines. However, traditional diffraction techniques have their limits, and these limits are best exemplified by the fact that certain important materials (e.g.

Thermal neutron polarisation

Pramana, 1984
The basic principle for the production of polarised thermal neutrons is discussed and the choice of various crystal monochromators surveyed. Brief mention of broad-spectrum polarisers is made. The application of polarised neutrons to the study of magnetisation density distributions in magnetic crystals, the dynamic concept of polarisation, principle ...

Polarizer for thermal neutrons

Physics Bulletin, 1977
The interaction between the neutron and electron spin provides a unique tool for studying the distribution of magnetism in solids. Neutron scattering measurements with magnetic materials are particularly sensitive when the spin state of the neutron is defined, that is when the neutron beams are polarized.

Neutron Thermalization in Graphite

Nuclear Science and Engineering, 1964
In this work our ability to understand thermal-neutron spectra in graphite-moderated reactor systems is examined on the basis of a theoretical description of neutron scattering that begins at the m...

Thermal diffusion of neutrons

Journal of Nuclear Energy. Parts A/B. Reactor Science and Technology, 1963
Abstract The effect of non-uniform temperature upon stationary distributions of thermal neutrons in extended non-absorbing media is studied on the basis of transport theory. Expressions are given by which the thermal diffusion factor, along with the coefficient of ordinary diffusion, can be computed for any given scattering law.
