Thermal perception on lingual and labial skin [PDF]

open access: yesPerception & Psychophysics, 1984
The perception of warmth and cold was measured on six labial and lingual loci plus the fingertip. The results indicate that (1) the responsiveness to warming varies substantially across oral sites; (2) compared to warming, the responsiveness to cooling is more homogeneous across oral locations and somewhat stronger relative to the fingertip; (3) the ...

Proximity and Gaze Influences Facial Temperature: A Thermal Infrared Imaging Study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Direct gaze and interpersonal proximity are known to lead to changes in psycho-physiology, behaviour and brain function. We know little, however, about subtler facial reactions such as rise and fall in temperature, which may be sensitive to contextual ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Recurrent Hypothermia and Autonomic Dysfunction Secondary to Shapiro Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 44‐year‐old man presented with recurrent hypothermia, diaphoresis and hypertension. Extensive investigation for infectious, inflammatory, metabolic and endocrine aetiologies was negative. MR scan of the brain demonstrated no lesions but revealed callosal dysgenesis, consistent with Shapiro syndrome.
