Manipulation of Glassy State in Amorphous Selenium by Low-temperature Internal Friction Measurements [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2018
We have studied the thickness and quench-rate dependent internal friction of amorphous selenium (a-Se) thin films deposited at room temperature. The internal friction of a-Se films exhibit a temperature independent plateau below 1 K followed by a broad ...

Thermal treatment and mechanical properties of aluminum-2021 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Mechanical properties, after thermal treatments, are summarized for sheet and plate of copper-rich, high-strength, heat-treatable aluminum-2021. The alloy is quench sensitive, quench rate and variations in aging affect corrosion behavior.

Off equilibrium fluctuations in a polymer glass [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The fluctuation-dissipation relation (FDR) is measured on the dielectric properties a polymer glass (polycarbonate). It is observed that the fluctuation dissipation theorem is strongly violated for a quench from above to below the glass transition ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Nucleation of vortices by rapid thermal quench

open access: yes, 1999
We show that vortex nucleation in superfluid $^3$He by rapid thermal quench in the presence of superflow is dominated by a transverse instability of the moving normal-superfluid interface.

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Quasi-3-D spectral wavelet method for a thermal quench simulation

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics in Industry, 2021
The finite element method is widely used in simulations of various fields. However, when considering domains whose extent differs strongly in different spatial directions a finite element simulation becomes computationally very expensive due to the large

Quench protection analysis in accelerator magnets, a review of the tools

open access: yes, 2014
As accelerator magnets see the increase of their magnetic field and stored energy, quench protection becomes a critical part of the magnet design. Due to the complexity of the quench phenomenon interweaving magnetic, electrical and thermal analysis, the ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Non-equilibrating a black hole with inhomogeneous quantum quench

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We study quantum quench processes in (1+1)-dimensional conformal field theory (CFT) in which the initial thermal equilibrium (Gibbs) state is time-evolved by spatially inhomogeneous Hamiltonians, the so-called Möbius and sine-square-deformed (SSD ...
