Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Resonantly enhanced thermal emitters based on nanophotonic structures

open access: yes, 2015
The manipulation of photons, especially the control of spontaneous emission, has become a core area of photonics research in the 21st century. One of the key challenges is the control of the broadband emission profile of thermal emitters.

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Thermal management of concentrator photovoltaics [PDF]

open access: yes
Photovoltaic Concentrator systems, which increase the solar radiation intensity on the photovoltaic cells, may reduce the system cost, if the cost of the concentrator is less than the photovoltaic material displaced.

Real-time quantitative analysis of volatile products generated during solid-state polypropylene thermal oxidation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during PP thermal oxidation under three oxygen partial pressures (0%, 21% and 100% of atmospheric pressure) at 140 C was performed by proton transfer reaction coupled with Fourier transform ion cyclotron ...
